I have a M1009 that runs over 20 pretty easily. I have another that runs 16 to 18. My M1008 was doing 16 to 20 until my 16 year old started driving it. He has been getting 9 to 12 miles per gallon. He insists he does not drive it hard, but if I can get a tank without him in it, the mileage comes back. 8)

Hi All,

I have a 1985 M1009 CUCV Blazer with a 6.2L Diesel V8 engine, all stock, no mods.

What is the best or least complicated way of figuring out the mileage for my particular
vehicle?

The fuel gauge does not work at this time, so that does not help.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you...

Have a oood night,

CJ

I assume your odometer works.

1. fill up tank and note odometer reading
2. Drive vehicle until about half tank remaining
3. fill up tank and note odometer reading and gallons of diesel to fill tank
4. 2nd odometer reading - 1st reading / gallons = mpg

hope that helps

I haven't had mine long enough to do a true average, but I filled it up last Friday and since then I have put 121 miles on it. I stopped and filled it up again today, and the pump cut off at $16.73 (5.789 gallons). That comes out to 20.9 MPG, and that's mainly in town driving. So far, I'm impressed with the mileage.

I probably would get better, but I stand on the pedal most of the time.

I think speed needs to be mentioned because the 6.2 is "happy" up to a point and then it just starts pouring fuel in. I have gotten 20.1 and 20.3 driving around town and short highway runs at 65 mph. I did 120 miles at 65-70 and after topping off, figured 19.1.

I have to got to San Antonio for a teacher conference all next week and plan to take back roads only with max speed never over 65 down there. Then, take the interstates back but probably still not break 65 to compare the mileage. Then, the week after I have another teacher conference in Ft. Worth that will be interstate type driving all 400 miles round trip. I am looking forward to how it does.

I spent my lunch today looking at 1930's road maps on the internet trying to figure out what modern day back roads used to be the "highway" of the day. Because I want to see new country on my back road slow speed mileage portion. Google earth lets me look for junkyards on my proposed route too!

Okay, I am about a week away from getting my 1009 on the road, assuming all goses well. Here what I got, I installed a 700r4 with a B&m lockup mech. thingy,a turbo and alot of other crap. I was wondering what others with similar cofiguration have gotten concerning fuel milage?
