we would like to know if they used different trans ratios in the wrecker or tractors. we have a empty deuce with no drive line issues topping out at 45 mph with the engine in top running shape at 3200 rpm. short from pulling the trans out and calculating the ratio of direct drive. we figured we would post and ask if they used different ratios for style of trucks. maybe just experimental stuff since the truck is one of the first built

This should answer your questions. The Spicer 3052 transmission was used in the gasser trucks (M44) and has a different shift pattern than the 3053 used in the multifuels. 5th gear is direct drive in the 5052 and OD in the 5053. 4th gear is direct in the 5053.
Understand I have both gas and multifule trucks and both transmissions issue is why does one gasser top out at 45 and other top out at 65. Same engine turning same speed same direct transmission unless someone swapped gears inside. Kinda why I thought there might be a lower ratio used on wreckers or somthing like that.

Sorry, I missed the fact that you have a gas engine. I thought you were just asking about transmission differences between a diesel and a gasser.
