Gear Ratios: Hello, I am new to the site so please forgive my ignorance. I have a 2001 1097A2 with overdrive. I new before I bought it that 65-70 mph was max speed. Can you change the ring gear and pinion for a more highway friendly driving experience? Also, this Humvee has the 6.5 Detroit Diesel. What is the oil pressure range on this engine? Thanks!

Welcome to the SS forums!
Your truck has 2.73 gears, they are available in 2.56, 2.73 and 3.07 so yes you could switch to 2.56 gears but then you might not have enough power to push that box any faster.
The oil pressure is somewhere from diddly to squat, if you get 10psi hot idle to 25-30 hot at highway speeds you are in good shape.
There are many here that can give you advice on both subjects.

Thanks for the follow up. Do you own all those vehicles on your post? Looks like a bunch of Hogs as well. Nice. Yeah, I guess with the weight that would be an issue. I am like a moving chicane on the highway, which is funny. Screw em. I replaced the oil pressure sensor but it read close to zero which freaked me out. I took it to WW Williams which specializes on diesels and they said the pressure is fine. I have had it for a couple months but it has been sitting at that repair shop because the fuel pump assembly is leaking. They quoted me $3k for a replacement part. I found a place in Memphis called Diesel Care and Performance that quoted me $590.00 for a rebuild but it's been a month and they haven't even started to work on the rebuild. Have no clue what to do on that issue. Thanks for the help and wisdom. - Keith

One last question. It came with Goodyear Wrangler MT's that have a date code of 2005. New tires are insanely expensive. I found a place called Feltz that has tires with 90% trad and 2020 date code for $150.00 each. Normally I wouldn't sit in a vehicle with 20 year old tires. In my mind I think these must be special tires being run flats. Am I whistling by the graveyard?

The gauges are pretty much only there for reference, not to be treated as accurate. As long as the gauges are showing the same results under the same operating conditions, don't worry about them. When they start showing you something different, then you start worrying.

Feltz tire is 100% legit and a pleasure to do business with. I bought some tires a few years back and the owner called to arrange shipping to me (to a loading dock an hour or so away, but that's not terrible around here)

The tires and run flats are 2 different components of the same system. The only thing remotely special about the tires is being treated to resist ozone damage and being labeled as such (you should see a big "OZ" on the sidewall)

20 year old MT tires aren't terrible. Most of it is how the tires were stored and whatnot.
I have 20+ year old MT tires on several trailers and don't worry about them. Just make sure they are sufficiently aired up and you should be okay. J
Since yours are on the truck itself I'd just keep an eye on them until the new tires come in, and then I would keep the best 1 or 2 as emergency spares if you didn't buy a spare from Feltz.

As for your pump rebuild, did you check reviews on that place first? A few people have posted decent experiences, but many have also given poor reviews for excessive turn around time and whatnot.

The usual recommendation is to buy a new one from a legit vendor, such as Hummer Parts Guy (new pump on sale just under $1700 right now)

You would have been wise to come here first, if you look down a few posts here to "injection pump reinstall" you would see that DCP is listed as an unreliable source for IPs do not cheap out as it WILL bite you in the ass.
ditch those tires they are too old unless you do not plan on driving on the road.

I spoke to a guy at DCP who originally said two weeks a month ago. He offered a refund but I didn't know where else to go. Going to definitely do my research and get my money back from DCP on Monday. Once the vehicle is back in my possession, I am going to get 4 tires from Feltz and keep the best of the old ones for the spare. Thanks for the quick replys. Much appreciated. - Keith
