Gen1 Light exploding

OK, so ive read through what I can too try and see what happened, no luck. So i ordered the alt rebuild kit for gen1 from CUCVELECTRIC.COM, put everything together, installed in the truck( 1986 m1008), fired it up, the light was pulsing as it was idling, revved it up a bit and the gen1 light just about blinded me right before it blew up and burned out. Took it to alt repair shop and they said stator was burned and the regulator was no good, so I paid them the 70 bucks for the two new parts and too put it all back together. I will reinstall the alt in about an hour and see what happens this time after I put the new bulb in the dash.

Has anyone had this happen too them BTW ??

Yes, I had it happen in my Ram Charger. Every light on the truck blew, wires melted, and stereo fried. Major Meltdown.
You were lucky, a lightbulb.

The lamp should come on as voltage is supplied to the alternator rotor windings via that lamp when the ignition key is placed in the run position. Once the alternator starts turning and develops it's own rotor voltage the equalization of voltage on either side of the lamp causes the current to stop flowing through it and the lamp goes out.

Either you are drawing more current from the battery through the lamp to the alternator or you are feeding more current from the alternator through the lamp to the battery.

Check to make sure the lamp is the one called for in the manual (needs to be a specific wattage).

Check to make sure all your other connections from the alternator to ground and to the batteries are good (not just the connections but the wires, remove each connection, test the wires with an ohm meter and reinstall using conductive electrical grease but do not let the grease create shorts).
