Glow Plug Card

Can anyone tell me the function/purpose of the glow plug cards in the M1008/1009? Also, does the civilian version use these?

well to turn on and off the glow plugs. and yes all civy & military GM diesels use glow plugs and some sort of controller.

The civiy model is differnt though and the military one is no longer avalable through GM You have to either fix your old one, find a good used or surplus new one , change it to a civy one or put in a push button one ...ect....

Frontline Military Supply has new ones. GM was getting $125.

Well, the technical answer for function/purpose is:
Measures temperature of engine / to determine if the glow plugs are required and the duration of the glow
Measures voltage on glow plug side of relay / to determine if the glow plug system is functioning
Actuates glow plug relay / to warm the precombustion chamber in the cylinders to aid starting
Activates 'Wait' light / to indicate to operator when the glow plugs are energized
