Halfshaft length issue

Hey guys,
I have an issue with my passenger side front halfshaft length. When I bolt the CV to the brake rotor, the other end is 1 inch too short to seal at the hub. This shaft is the longest of the 4 so I'm pretty sure it is the right one. All of the other halfshafts are very securely pushing into their respective hubs. I bought this M1046 as a box of parts :-(so I'm not confident I have everything I need. Sure seems like a spacer or something is missing , however, I don't see one in the TMs. See the photos. Anybody have any ideas?
Thanks,
Jeff

You have the shaft partially compressed. You have to either grab the stub shaft and pull it through the hub from the outside, or try pushing it through from behind. Maybe tap with a rubber mallet but be careful not to damage the boot! You may remove it and greases the splines well, then re install it.

Thanks for the info all. The half shaft is all the way extended and is still about 1.5 inches too short. Based on these measurements and the other helpful info looks like I have 3 rear half shafts and I'm missing the correct RH front one. My current RH Front measures 28" and it is all the way extended. A 30" halfshaft should be about right then. I'll have to search the internet for the correct one!

You have a rear shaft in the front-right position. Remove and replace with the correct length shaft. As others have pointed out, there are three sizes - short and stubby for the front-left, medium length for the two rears and extra long front-right.

Thanks. I'm going on that assumption ( that I have a rear shaft in the front) and I've ordered a new RH front HS. Should be here in a few days!

So I wanted to get some half shafts for my M998. I got my front from wolfer and my back from parts liquidators. They look like good half shafts. A friend of mine wanted some rear ones so we bought two for him too. He tried to put them in without me. He is complaining they do not fit. The old ones compress nearly 2 inches and the new ones he says are too long( by a half inch) to fit and he says they are the wrong shaft.

ARE THEY THE WRONG SHAFT?

They are 10K and the spline fits and mounts fit perfectly.

So I checked the shafts they are 27.5" long. So I called my buddy and he said it does not matter. The shafts have to compress smaller than 27.5" because that is how they articulate. Is that true? Do I need to send these shafts back?

Ordered 2 rear shafts from parts liquidators also, they are 27.5 when compressed, the originals are 1 inch shorter, i sent them a message this morning
