Hard to shift when cold?

When I first take my Deuce out from starting up cold, it’s hard to get the transmission into the gears for the first few miles while shifting. Once after driving it for a few minutes/miles it shifts into gear (any gear) just fine, with no problems. I was thinking......during the five minute warm up and pre trip inspection. Would it help the cold shifting manners some, if I threw the transfer case in natural, and put the transmission in gear while it sits there idling and warming up? The transmission wouldn’t be under any load, but the oil, gears, bearings and shift rails would be getting lubed and warmed up some as well, before the initial take off. Just thinking out loud here, any thoughts?
