Has anyone actually driven a M35 20+hours?

Last March 11 we drove both of our deuces off-road from 11AM to 7AM the next day at a 3,000 acre grass/heavy brush fire, stopping only to check the oil and radiator, fuel, water for the water tank, and four tire changes.

Question, does anyone else use the pull-out "throttle" on the dashboard as a cruise control? I notice the comments about the accelerator pedal.
We use it often when driving on the open highway, you just have to keep your hand close to it and pay attention.

Come to think of it I have driven a deuce for 6 hours or more on a grass/heavy brush fire, and most of the driving is in off road sand, sometimes at very precarious angles 20 to 30 degrees side pitch with 1000 gallons of water on board, the only time I got out was to fill the beast up with water, get a drink of water for myself and check the old girl out. If I were on road I think I could drive 20 hours with it...... but I would definitely stop and take more breaks and walk around.

I went about seven hours once in a deuce. The last part was with a slipping clutch due to a leaking rear main. I was going up grade and driving by "sound", keeping the engine at the same RPM. The only problem was, I was slowing down. Limped the truck home and fixed the seal.

Yes i use the hand trottle all the time on long trips, my foot goes to sleep alot so use the hand trottle so i can move my foot around

I'm not exactly ever coming back to the region. I'm moving for a year off back home, before grad-school. So as much fun as it would be to have a passenger I think it is probably not possible. But thanks for the offer.

I drove 800 miles in 15 hours solo yesterday. Longest stop was the length of time to fill up with the fuel filler in one hand and a hotdog in the other. Got lots of rain and hail too. It went well, but I was already awake for 27 hours when I climbed in the deuce cab, so up for 42 hours total when I got home. Bring something to sit on- I sat on my jacket and my ass is still sore!

Proud to say i have 15 hours straight 2 times, and 8 hours 2 times towbarring another deuce, a 2 hour run twice towbarring a 5 ton with my deuce, and have hit 40 plus thou miles in my deuce's over all, and working on the 5 tonner miles now, keep up the good work !!! the best sleep i have ever had has been after a good deuce run...

I remember making the mistake of telling my Warrant Officer my ass hurt from driving an old 1956 M135 CDN around all day. His way of relieving my aching backside was to detail me as the 'monkeyboy' for a helicopter crew dropping in supplies to military and fire suppression crews.

last item out of chopper was me, abseiling to ground and having to make my way back on my 'leather personnel carriers'!

Cured my backside from that day on LOL! Noise on long distance trips can be a creeping hazard, I've enjoyed the responses here for getting away from it. If you have a lot of monotonous road stretches to drive, I have found quality Books on Tape, to be a godsend.

You'll have to find a reader whose voice you enjoy. Making yourself get out for inspections and rests are necessary. Listen and pay attention to what your body is telling you. Water beats the BS RedBull crap.

Dont want to sound like a long lost Uncle giving advise, but I've had to investigate too many traffic fatalities where Fatigue was the primary causative factor.

Take pictures if you can.........your gonna be telling this story for years to come !! It'll be an adventure for sure!

well I made the trip in 22hours and 30 minutes roughly. I cruised at 50-52mph at 23-2350rpm for about 19 hours of actual driving time. I took a 1 hour nap in the cab near Jamestown, NY. The only problem I really faced on the drive was my right leg going numb. The truck otherwise was perfect. So I had to take a 10-15mintue break outside of the cab every 4-4.5hrs. The longest stretch I did was Jamestown to Binghamton 5.5hrs my leg was a big numb after that stretch. Still I would do it again!

Love the old girl, and the Ipod was audible when I put my earmuffs on so I didn't loose my sanity from the dull-roar of the M35... Which I know have named "The Duke"!

i drove mine 23 hours straight even though it should have been less .i went to ohio to pick up my expandable . drove straight down loaded up and drove home .i left the house at 4 am sat and didnt make it home till 6 am sunday .it took three hours to load up so driving time was something like 23hrs.it wasnt to bad i expected to be alot more beat up than i was muffler really makes a big difference .still kept my head phones from my phone in .

I did a 800mi round trip a couple of weeks ago that nearly killed me. I rode up to OK City from Austin and then drove a CUCV back. My trouble is getting sleepy, and I have a bum right hip with a limited range of movement that really gets in the way (and sore) on driving trips. If I had known for sure I was driving back I would have slept on the way up, but I didn't. NoDoze and Java Monster kept me physically awake but mentally I was trashed. The CUCV is the most comfortable vehicle I have driven long distance, just can not do the long driving thing. I reallly wish I could do better, love bieng on the road and would like to do more road trips. Short runs between stops, and taking my time is the only way I can do it.

Hee hee hee,Thank GOD for Monster!I lived on that stuff when me,wrecker,and The great man on the run Offy made a trip to Indiana to pick up some deuces.I think I drank about a dozen cans including a couple double shots.Wonder what my liver was thinking!48 hours without sleep!Combined 900 miles give or take.Half in a ford Escort and half in a deuce.

Recoveries and long trips are the best part of the fun. That butterfly that says you may not make it. The determination that says I'm ready for the best and the worst.

And you should make it. You don't carry a prescription schedule and reminder pack yet. Your young, should be no problem! The line between adventure and fool hardy is thin. Having a purpose makes the insane practical and plausible. Now if you went out for cigarettes and came back after driving to the coast, well?

Then eighteen years later your unknown westcoast son knocks on your door......well?

So little real adventure left today. Drive that Truck till your wore out and then you will have stories to tell.

Well I just poked around here and there in my Deuce, but when I came out here to NC, I left Redlands Ca at 1:00pm in my dodge Van pulling a trailer with a Bike on it and 38 hours later I arrived in Wadesbourough NC. Slept for a entire day Yea its not the same. But its a record for me 2400 or so miles. Saw ghostlike people amd heard voices, just told them to stay out'a my way, and if they didn't have anything good to say, then shut-up.
