Has anyone thought of using an electro-hydraulic power assist setup?

Having the electro-pump provide pressure for a steering ram.
One advantage I can immediately see is that you can mount the pump literally anywhere since all it needs is battery power. A dash switch could be used to manually switch the system off/on, or automatically switch it off/on at a preset speed.

it would need to be running continuously and a continuous duty system is very expensive and will consume a lot of amperage.

:ditto:

The fact is that a 5-ton mutifuel PS pump is cheaper and easier to install than a electric system. It's also a whole lot less complex.
