a 1953 would be painted a OD(Olive drab) semi gloss like 24087 SEMI-GLOSS, 1957 to present
Dark O.D. The last color used before camo patterns started or AJP WWII SEMI-GLOSS, Late 1944 thru 1957
A true O.D., AJP had this color matched from some early NOS parts.

God I hope this looks alright.... This is a clip from another website dedicated to military paint jobs...

The camouflage alkyd enamel paints and colors for the four color camouflage were been standardized under the designations in this table:

Earth yellow 30257
Earth red 30117

Light green 34151
Dark green 34102
Forest green 34079
Black 37038

Colors for more recent camouflage patterns would be from this list of FS595B colors:

Desert Tan 686 33446
Black 37030
Brown 383 30051

Franz, welcome to the forum! I spent some time in your neighborhood back in the sixties (Augsburg). If you can't find an answer here, try
mil-veh@milveh.org

Hey Doc, isn't that known as the "shotgun technique" in the medical world?
In electronics, we have "prayer beads"..... :)

Hallo Franz,

@ all: I live roundabout 140 km away from Franz. In Germany we say: "This is not the next way." But it's not too far away for a short trip.

Grüsse
