I believe #2 is part of the "Sprag" style transfer case reverse / forward shift linkage.

In #3 you are missing pretty much everything but #22 in the diagram.

Yeah but the actual lever moves freely and doesnt feel attached to anything, and I def. have an air in / out switch that puts it into 6x6.

That linkage shown in pic 2 is for the sprag. If they replaced the transfer with an air shift, they may have just left that there intact.
