Having traveled to Boise,ID from near Sacramento 2-3 times a year, I noticed HEMTT vehicles on civilian flat beds on HWY 80 in N. Nevada mostly going east. However we passed one going west at Donner Summit last trip. Where are these rebuilt, or is there some other operation ?
Thanks

Home of the Oshkosh Truck Company, division within being Oshkosh Defense, which apparently got a HEMMT rebuild contract and thus why there are few to none HEMMTs coming through DRMO/DLA

They were doing them at the Blue Grass Arsenal also a couple years ago. They had an outside area where the trucks were blasted with dry ice to remove the CARC.

My 1987 M985 went to Oshkosh for a "0 Reset/Recap" program in 2001 at their plant in Oshkosh, Wi. At that time it was stripped to the bare frame and rebuilt as a new truck warranted by Oshkosh for 12 months or 12000 miles. Then in 2009 it went through an RSMS O/H in Saginaw, Tx. which would be servicing, paint, tires, brakes and any other required repairs. I figure that between original cost and both rebuild costs there is somewhere around $750,000 in tax dollars in this particular truck. I can't say if there are any O/H sites other than Oshkosh at this time, others may know. I am sure there are several repair facilities around the country for the HEMTTs and do know there is a facility in Ogden, Ut. that services and repairs a wide variety of military vehicles including the HEMTT series of trucks. There is also an acceptance facility in Ogden that usually has several new M1120A4s and M984A4s lined up for inspection and dispersal.

Saw one today on a civilian flatbed parked at the Golden Gate truck stop on HWY 95 in Hawthorne NV. Looked like he was headed north.

LOL, I know that a "0 Reset/recap" program was supposed to cost 75% of original delivery price. My M985 was $361629 new, so that would be $271221.75 for the Oshkosh reset. I was also told that the average "RSMS" O/H was $80-120K. So, by those numbers my M985 has $750000 in tax dollars tied up in it. All I can say is "WOW." :)

I have seen alot of HEMTTs northbound on I81 in Virginia that look inbound for rebuild and alot of nice ones headed south on 81. I am sure they are being done up at Chambersburg

A lot of times they will ship instead of driving equipment because it is cheaper and less wear and tear on the vehicle. Yes there was a RSMS rebuild of PLS at Shelby but as I understand it all 5 RSMS units were to be closed.

And when such has a breakdown on the highway (with no support) it's a HUGE PITA and EXPENISVE - M911 w/M747 (fuel/ruined engine), M911 (leadfoot driver/rod thru block), Navy surplus 6x6 F900 (Allison DOR), a couple fire trucks.
