Hey all...

Well the HEMTT needs a new radiator, or at least the core...

Does anyone know if the core out of a MK48 will work in the HEMMT?

If not, anyone know where a HEMTT radiator can be found?

Thanks!

I think the MK48 core will work. I have taken some good measurements of overall dimensions and on the bolt pattern on top & bottom of the MK48 core. I have complete radiators and radiator cores for the MK48, but I don't have any HEMTT's left to measure to make sure they are the same. I also have a complete radiator for the PLS that I think uses the same core.

If you measure the HEMTT's radiator core I can compare to the measurements I have for the MK48 core to see if it is a match.

I posted the approximate measurements on post 59 of https://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?t=156607

I really wish the MK48 core would work in a HEMTT, but I don't think so. The cores have different NSN and part numbers, despite both being supplied to the government by Oshkosh. They definitely look similar, but there must be some subtle yet important distinction.

Dropped a line to Oshkosh, hopefully we'll get an official response...

I have two Mk48 Rad cores... so we'll see...

Thanks all! Will document here what I find.

The difference is the mk lays down
The Hemtt stands up all you want is the core you will have to put your tanks on.

The data I posted was for the cores, not the complete radiators. Obviously the radiators are different, but Oshkosh also has different part numbers and NSN numbers for the cores themselves. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't do that if the cores were identical.... But I really do hope I'm wrong. MK48 radiators and cores are much more plentiful and cheaper than HEMTT. Earlier this year I got a NOS crated HEMTT radiator on GL for $160, but I'd still rebuild my old one to have as a spare.

I'm being told its a HEMTT engine...

I've done fairly regular searches for Detroit on GL for 3 or 4 years, but I haven't seen a 8V92 for the MK48 sold on GL. I'm pretty certain this picture I found a while ago is the engine & trans out of the MK48. The turbo is not over the block and there is no set up for a fan on the front of the engine. The picture of the dash was on same eBay listing as the engine.
