HMMWV 50 cal Casing Mystery Solved!

I may have solved a mystery regarding my M1151A1 today. While restoring my truck, I found spent 50 cal casings all over including inside the front dash ac duct. For the past two days, my truck has been on display at the USS Alabama. Today, I was speaking with a former Marine who had served in this very type of HMMWV. I told him about finding a 50 cal casing inside the front dash ac duct and asked him “why?”. He replied that they would put spent casings in the ac louvers to keep them open and sometimes they’d get accidentally pushed through. Ding ding. Now you know.
