I have a 1986 m998 hmmwv & I found an underbody skid plate kit that the seller says the paperwork specifies m998 a2 non winch truck. Will this kit fit my Humvee?

Look at the front skid plate. If it is longer, noted by the stretched out holes, then it's for the a2 or ECV Humvee, not the standard m998's on GP. If it's the shorter skid plate (flatter holes), it'll work on a standard Humvee.

With all that said, you could modify the newer setup to fit on an old Humvee, as I had to learn the above the hard way.

Since I'm not that familiar with the truck or which plate goes were could you please show me which plate to look at. And what does it take to modify the newer plate to fit the older truck if I do get the wrong kit.
You don't need the skid plate in either application if you fab. Bracket for the front cross member...other then the front skid Plate, they are the same. You can always add the frame rail extensions and winch plate....

I found just the gas tank plate. How does it attach? I dont see any holes. Does it have brackets or just strap to the tank?

Like so...
The plate is flexible enough you don't need to drop the tank and can do one end at a time. Just make sure your tank is low on fuel to reduce the weight of the tank being supported by a single strap.

Any pics on how to mount the longer A2 cage on a 1988 M998?
