CRC brake cleaner and a sponge with the green scrub pad worked well for me too. Then I rinsed everything off with water.

Both the lacquer thinner and brake cleaner worked for me. It takes a lot of scrubbing, but eventually it comes off.

After removing the writing, I painted the area using Rust-oleum High Heat flat black. After drying, the paint is an exact match for the original black on the truck.
