Hub Spindle Nut Socket-Will this work?

Hello!

A few months ago, I bought a socket off the shelves of a local auto-parts store and JUST NOT got around to testing to see if it worked. Well, it doesn't fit. It has the same shape and everything and the notches seem to line up with the holes, but it won't slide on and remove the nut.

I tried to return it and conveniently the store no longer sells that product and couldn't even offer me store credit-which is what they do when a return comes in, unopened, without a receipt.

I went to O'Reilly's up the road a ways and they have three type of spindle sockets on the shelves. 2 are way too small, and one I'm just not sure enough about.

This is the one I'm thinking about buying.

Is it going to work? I can't tell. I would buy one online but I need this truck up and running ASAP.

DO any of you have some known good NAPA, Autozone, O'Reilly's, Car Quest, Federated, Murray's auto parts store product numbers that I could call and ask for?

My truck is a 1986 M1008.

The KD appears to be correct for the front, I use an OTC 7158 for the front and an OTC 1929 for the rear.

When I changed the bearings in my M1028 I bought a socket at O'Reilly's. I couldn't get it to go into the slots by hand. I ended up tapping it on with a shop hammer, worked perfect!

I did my hubs about 3 weeks ago. I bought a used OTC 7158 from ebay for $10. It was cheaper than buying one or renting one around here

Maybe I need to tap it on. I can feel it SORT of grab... I'm just so afraid of jacking it up.

I looked... I WISH I found it for $10 haha!!

It's just a fancy nut. Just give it a couple light taps and see if it trys to start. I bet it will.

Be carefull even though your M1009 is an 86 there is a ONE year only 84 hub that has a "key" that wont let the nut back off. Mine is an 85 but has an 84 axle under the front. Once the key is out it will come out by hand. Its worth a look. I found out the hard way!

His is an M1008, but you are correct in that the M1009 uses one of two different sockets. Depends on the year of the axle as you referred.
