Drove the truck a little today...
after the engine had cooled to air temp (several hours) I was poking around and found that the intake manifold was HOT. Is this normal? How can I disable the heater?

Joel, the flame heater needs the pump and the igniter coil turned on to operate. The switch is on the lower left near the steering wheel column.
If it is on, you should be able to hear the vibrator in the igniter unit and the small pump will be running. This system is probably not turned , but that's what would happen if it was. Also, fuel must be supplied at pressure from the IP to the small pump, which increases the pressure to about 90 psi to feed the flame heater nozzle.
Your engine is probably just taking its time to cool down.

If it's a multifuel, remember the intake manifold is water jacketed.
