Hi guys, I am having trouble getting my parking brake to work properly. I had a hard time replacing the spring (#17) that connects to the top of the outer parking brakeshoe. Then it broke again. Now I noticed that the brakeshoe braket (#19) is slightly twisted/bent. If it were straight the spring would fit better. Would you mind looking at your parking brake assembly and tell me if that bracket (#19) that bolts to the transfer case and holds the spring is straight. If it is meant to be straight, anybody out there have one?

Jeff, in that picture, it looks like your parking brake is not adjusted properly! The bolt head should be touching the shoe(brake released) and your brake shoe gaps look too big.

The bolt head needs to keep the shoe closer to the outer drum, this lets the inner shoe keep the correct clearance also. Basically, you center the shoe (gap) on the drum, with the brake released, with that bolt head.

The brake is released. Im in the middle of bobbing the truck and have the frame up on jack-stands, and yes, I did chock the front wheels (both in front of and behind the front wheel) as it is only about 4 feet from my garage door. I had to let the brake off so I could spin the t-case to remove the drive shaft.

Now that I re-read your post and looked at the pic again I see what your saying. Thanks I will add that to the list of things to take care of before this goes back on the road.

Guess that means I need new shoes too.
