Knocking with Black smoke help

I have searched this topic and came up with nothing, I just got done putting new o rings in my IP because it was leaking diesel fuel after I put it all back together on the first test drive, the truck knocked very badly and puffed white smoke, after Drove it a few miles the white smoke went away, and now it only knocks on and off at a certain RPM speed and pours black smoke, even when the knock goes away still puffs black smoke, Im assuming the white smoke on first test drive could be the engine lube burning off something along those lines.. anyone hurd of this? ps. truck has drivetrain from a m1028 with 28,000 miles on it

Did you by any chance take the IP off the engine, or get your timing out off whack by loosing the 3 mounting bolts?? If you did, did you reference your timing marks?

nope just took intake off and top cover ....timing is slightly advanced btw

yes sorry took the three screws off top of IP

By any chance did you bump up the fuel?

to bump up fuel I would of had to rotate the engine until I see the allen head screw and turn it up? no thats not what I didnt I took the throttle shaft out put new o rings in and now my truck knocks

Yes, thats how you do it. Wierd, normally black smoke means excessive fuel.

the black smoke is not the issue its the knocking sound which is making me unable to drive my truck and Im not going to tear back into the motor until I have an idea of what Im looking for

Try adjusting you timing, with the oring swap, you are probably getting more fuel since there is no longer a leak.

yes with seafoam, if i had some water in the IP would it make it Knock?

Try adjusting your timing, with the oring swap, your fuel delivery is better.

Water, would definitely make it run like crap. Just let it run for a bit, no load, see if it clears up. I wont hurt it just to idle.

my timing is slightly advanced would you suggest putting it back to stock location?

As a start, I would say yes.

Good luck, since you didnt mess with fuel delivery, other than stopping a leak, I would gamble and say "timing" at this point.

What kind of knock? Timing knock? Is that the only thing you did while it was apart? White smoke could be coolant.

I put the timing back to almost stock and the knock and black smoke both are no longer thank you for the help
