Largest tire size that can be used on a M37, M43 with stock suspension? I have heard that a 1100 X 16 can be used without vehicle suspension modification.

Can anyone tell me who has used larger tires on their M37 and M43.

Many thanks for any reply.

I have 11.00 R16 Michelin XZL tires on my M37. My suspension is completely stock and I get no rubbing anywhere through the range of motion of the steering system or when operating in my woods.

I've seen pictures of where someone had mounted Michelin 325/85 R16 tires (similar OD but bit wider than the 11.00 R16). I've heard they are very close to rubbing - to the point where someone removed a grease zerk or something similar and capped the opening to provide a bit more clearance.

Directional tread is getting harder to find these days. You might be able to find some of the older Michelin XL tires in an 11.00R16. The newer Michelin XZL tires are nondirectional. Here's a picture of my Truck which had the 11.00R16 XL tires on it when I bought it.

I have since changed to 11.00R16 Michelin XZL tires (non-directional tread). Diameter spec is 38.7".

I've never liked non-directional treads.
No rational reason; I just don't.
Funny, I've never liked directional treads... except on my tractor. The only rational reason is that I'd like to have as much traction in reverse as I do going forward so when I get in trouble working in my woods in my truck, I have a prayer of getting back out again.

I do find the stock military NDTs on M37 trucks just about worthless for any purpose other than looking stock/historical.
