I realize the middle of June is a weird time to be thinking about block heaters but I'm getting ready to take Rosie down for several projects and new freeze plug heaters are on the list.

Last winter I had two heaters short out. I "think" the first one shorted because I absent mindedly started the engine without unplugging the heater. The second heater crapped out on it's own accord.

I've been installing heaters in the front starboard freeze plug position. I'm told that some people use the rear starboard position. I want to put heaters in both the front and rear plug locations.

It concerns me that the last heater (located in the front location) went out for no apparent reason.

Could it be that there is permanent cavitation arond the water pump area therefore even with the motor off the closeness of the front freeze plug to the water pump causes the heating element to short out?

Is anyone successfully running a heating element up front?

Maybe it's time to investigate the arctic kit, it heats both the coolant and the engine oil....Northern Minnesota, sounds cold even in the Summer. :)

We don't usually use them out here in sunny so Cal, but the trucks that come int the shop most allways have the heaters in the block at the exhaust side, rear. The N14, M11, B, C, L all have more than 1 place in the block to install a heater, soi'm guessing the rear is where it should be installed. The ISX engines have only 1 provision, exh. side FRONT.
