I am going to add a winch to the front and back of my humvee.
What is the hot set up?? Looking for modern style with remote and rope cable. Would 12 volt work off the alternator?

There are many threads on here with what folks have done.

The popular ones here are:

1. The Military winches (hydraulic)
2. Warn ($$$)
3. Other 24V "aftermarket" ones

I went with a 24V Sherpa. While the Sherpa did come with a rope, it only had a wire remote. I also hooked up a three way momentary switch so I can operate it from the inside if I need to.

What was kind of expensive was the front winch mount plate, since I could not fab that up myself. A bit of a PITA for me to install the front one since I had to deal with the brush-guard and dealing with the lower control arm bolts was extremely painful. The rear winch mount was the military one and was not as expensive.

I have an old Warn winch military edition with all the parts, and I will be putting that on one of my trucks, however I’m honestly considering going with a crappy harbor freight 12,000 pound winch front and back on one of my ECV‘s just to check it out.

I am aware that you get what you pay for, but I am very curious. Given that I have been reading a lot of negative feedback regarding Sherpa winches recently, and given that they may not be shipping to the United States right now anyway, I figure I only have 600 bucks apiece to lose.

Not sure if I will pay a price for this or not regarding malfunction or nonfunction, but I’m willing to be the guinea pig

My ECV has dual voltage my friend.

I was speaking in general terms, most folks have a dual voltage 200A system, I would NOT install a 12V winch on one of those vehicles and certainly not on a 60A single voltage system.
The cost of a replacement regulator would pay the difference in cost of a 24V winch over a 12V, several times.

I have the mile marker front winch plate on my m1123. From what I can tell the M8000 or 9.5RC would package well. I have a 10K Zeon here I might try and stuff in there. We will see....

On my M1097A1 I installed a Mile Marker 24V, purchased the frame extensions and a used front plate, I went with the 9.5K. If you call Mile Marker they will build you a 24V version, it was $75 extra and I had it within a week. With the frame extensions there was plenty of room up front.
