Locking Hubs m1009

Hey yall, Ive been using my 1009 as a DD lately and just noticed some grease coming out of the hub to locking hub gap. the grease seems to be oozing out of the gap. I took the hub off and everything looks fine inside so I put it back together. I noticed that there is a little play in the locking hub assembly when tightened down. I can move the whole hub assembly in and out about 1/16th of an inch. Is this normal? or is something slowly backing out inside the wheel hub? If not I am assuming that I need to replace the Oring on the hub. Does anyone know what size o ring I need off the cuff? Thanks

If the inner and outer retainer rings aren't gone, I'd say its probably just fine as long as it goes in and out. The front hubs aren't really fully water proof to start with, hence repacking wheel bearings after any sort of long term amount of adverse terrain. Although if you feel a new o-ring on the hub lock will fix it, warn makes locking hub service kits which more then likely interchange as warn was usually the OE supplier.

Im not sure if I need a full service kit... my locking hubs work just fine. However I want to stop flinging grease everywhere. Ill have to figure out what size o ring and stop at the hardware store.

If nothing else and the O ring is still in place. Put a little dab of grease on the flange and reinstall the lock out. Not a bad idea to take the lock out apart and clean the mud and dirt under the free/lock handle. That mud can really pack in behind there.

I got plenty of grease in there and theyre clean inside. went out for a long country drive and still had some grease seepage out of the crack. Still trying to locate what size o ring, im afraid if I take it off it might not go back on for the trip to the hardware store. for now I have a good wrap of electrical tape over the crack!
