Looking at an m1009

Well found an m1009 close to me for sale. Original paint. Not too bad rustwise. It will need rockers some front floor work and eventually the support beam the tailgate bolts to. The truck is clean mechanically as far as i could tell and was converted to a th700.
He had a donor truck and rebuilt the th700. It has about 20k. The truck has 100k.
Got him down to 3800. What do you guys think ? Hard to find a decent one in New England and the tranny swap would have cost me a grand. This truck will be my daily driver 60 miles round trip a day . The guy said it get 22 mpg on the highway with the th700.The electrical system is intact and unmolested. Still 12/24v

It depends on what its worth to to you. I seen some just sale on GL for $3800 more or less.

You can probably find a better deal if you look long enough. I got mine for $2000 with no rust at all on the rockers.

Blazers on gl have been all over the place! I paid $1400 for mine in November its rust free from Ft Hood just needed a tail gate! Ive also seen junk go for $4,000. I see a lot of nice ones on craigslist for 3-4 grand ready to go!!!!

You are very correct. I paid $3800 for my M1009 for a private seller close to the house. It was in Ok cond.It was a little high but worth it for me. I got more money in it than I can ever get back now .

But Ive seen alot of nice ones in better condition sell on craigslist close to me for a little cheaper.

A very nice original pair of M1008 M1009 went for $5k even closer to me. I really wanted to buy them but have no need to.

U can have mine for 5,000 its mint and has 4400 miles on it with a depot rebuilt hummer motor in it!

The tranny swap bumps the value for me because I want OD although I probably would have went the NV4500 route. Guys gotta remember I live in the northeast so the closest place to get one of GL is probably MAryland. So I'd be bidding blind on one, have title issues with the commie state of Ct and then the cost of getting it here since it's rare to get one of GL that could make a 10hr drive home. I think 3800 is the high side of what it's worth. Aside from some managable rust the truck looked clean. The Tranny swap was done nice and the wiring looked unmolested and everything worked as it should.

Not for nothing, but I live in the northeast, bougt mine from the guys at motorsource in Chicago and it was rust free. They go over them pretty well... Do the 700r4 swap yourself, but make sure it's a well built one! It'll cost you a little more in the short run, but the body will last a lot longer and if you keep the underside clean it'll hold it's value as rust free examples are a rarity in these parts. It'll be cheaper in the long run.

$3800.00 is not bad on the north east coast. Trucks in the middle of the country and southern states are about 35% cheaper. The rocker rust you can take care of, about 85% of the trucks have rocker rust. The tranny swap value cancels out the rust on the rockers. So I would think about the rest of the trucks condition and what you want to do with it.

I bought mine from a private seller. I just lived on craigslist for a few months until a good deal came up and when it came time to sell my '09 I was able to make some money on it.

Yeah I don't like buying something I cant drive first. changing the rockers is nothing. They are cheap and not too hard to do. The rear body support for the tailgate is a bit more involved but I have done a few of them and I got it down to a science. I cut the new one and put it in, in two pieces then weld it back together. Otherwise one of the quarterpanels needs to be partially removed. Aside from that the truck is in pretty good shape. Frame is clean . front floors need a little work but since i'm doing the rockers anyway it's an easy fix. All the cab supports are clean and the truck runs real nice.
