Looking for a MEP805A fuel level sending unit plus some detective work!

Hey Guys!

Some months ago the unit stopped showing anything but a full fuel tank, followed the TM and it seems like the liquid fuel sending unit is bad, then looking for a fuel leak that I though was from the filler neck, I took the low fuel switch unit out and found that the end of the aluminum rod was all swollen with corrosion. I did the TMs diagnostics on it and its not working ether! Both units had what seems to be water damage so I took around 20L out of the fuel tank through the bleeder below the fuel filler cap on the skid rail and the fuel was clean. It might have had water in the past and its gone now or is there another way to drain the lowest part of the tank to see if water pooled there?


Well back to the main problem, I just ordered online the low fuel switch but I can’t find anywhere the fuel level sending unit not even with the part number provided in the TM. Does anyone know how makes this unit or where I can get a hold of a OEM part? Although I greatly prefer an original fuel sending unit, I know this part is "universal" within many military vehicles and machines, does anyone know where to get a replacement?

CallMeColt has a great solution to the 802 fuel level sender. KUS makes senders for marine applications. Measure the depth of your tank and consider one of these. I plan to do this with my 805B as it never drops below 87%.

Thanks for the link, i think im gonna buy it as soon as I measure the tank depth. On another note, I got a refund today for the low fuel switch so back to square one damn it! Do you know where to get that unit also?

Harbour Freight has a hand operated pump with hoses for around $10. I use mine to pump out automatic transmission fluid and such. I did have to replace the "o" ring as the fit was loose.

I have not yet messed with the low fuel switch. Mine is a B unit so they are set up a little differently, I believe.
