Low oil pressure

Just installed my newly rebuilt 230 engine in my M-43. Fired up, ran great. However, oil pressure is on the low side, 25 PSI at elevated RPM. Trying to figure it out. I discovered that the oil pressure relief valve had been installed backwards, according to the TM. It apparently is very easy to do this. The rebuilder didn't realize that at the time. Could this possibly be the cause, as it appears that in the reversed position, it would be bypassing continuously, almost full open! I have reversed it and reinstalled, but have not yet started it again. Just thought I'd ask if anyone else has ever had this happen? According to the TM, it also says that the oil filter is "inoperative" at low RPM's, when the relief valve is closed. Reactivates (oil flows) when RPM's and oil pressure comes up and valve starts bypassing flow. Interesting setup, and clever too!

When the valve is fitted correctly you will probably see that pressure at idle. (More than I could see with your red print on fawn text background steel soldiers page. Please, Change it to White.

Well, learn something every day. In regards to the oil pressure problem, sure enough, the "plunger" had been installed backwards. On the 1/2 inch one (there are actually two different sizes used) it is easy to do as it will fit either way. But, installed the wrong way, the oil bypasses continuously, with no pressure control whatsoever. Reversed the plunger, and now have great oil pressure. 50 PSI at road speed, and 25 PSI at idle. Live and learn, I guess.
