I am a new owner of a 1986 M1008 (HD) I have searched the forums and read the tech manuals but this one has me stumped. The volt meter continues to read even with the key off. It is not stuck and the battery is draining. Please help.

Check the wiring schematics, it may be wired incorrectly, or your ignition switch may not be shuting off.

The relay under the dash might be sticking or bypassed... I'd start there. There are two black Bosch relays and a silver relay bolted to a bracket just to the driver's side of the round plug under where the stereo would go. One is for the voltmeter, the other is for the second alternator.

Later,
Joe
