I got an 1986 CUCV from an auction for dirt cheap, started and ran great. the only issues up until now were the one battery went dead then the glow plug relay, has new glow plugs, new fuel filter and pump. Its hard strarting now, i hear like a click or a little pop like a relay or something engaging but when i hear the noise the generator voltage either goes up or down, as if its utilizing one battery for the start, but then is the noise happens again the volts go back to normal. Also the the starter misses or something and grinds loud, but after 2 or 3 tries it will catch. any suggestions? also when i do get it started and the volts are low the belts sqeek loud but i assume thats the alt catching up. Once the truck is running for 30 seconds everything goes to normal and the trucks runs like a bear! Im new to the site but love it, any help would we be greatly appraciated.

Flexplate teeth worn maybe. You can buy one at Orelly's, NAPA or one on line. I used the Pioneer brand just fine. Some guys want OEM.

Do the doghead mod before you burn up all of the starter system. It is cheap and easy. Clean and check all you cables from the battery to the starter.

Read the TM's for a better idea and do a topic search too. Good luck.
