m1008 transfer case

On my M1008, passenger side of the transfer case, there is a hose leading to something that looks like a miniature vacuum modulator valve. What is that thing? Cant find it in the manual. but I dont know what it is called. Whatever it is , it looks like mine is ripped. Is that a vacuum hose, or an electrical connection for the indicator lamp?

On the tail piece on pass. side is the speedo cable and towards the pass. side on top is the 4x4 light switch.

thanks. I guess the torn rubber boot isnt causing any immediate problems.
