I've looked through the diagrams and I cant find this wire anywhere. the truck runs fine but seeing a random unhooked wire always concerns me. heres a picture below.

the wire comes out of the same harness as the glow plugs and alternator wires.

any help would be great thanks!

:carnac: What color is it and what does it have on the end?

it's black with a white stripe and it has a ring terminal on it. my first impression is that it's a ground of some kind. I tried to circle it in the photo.

On Schematic F-11 (Diagnostics Circuits) it is shown on the drivers side alternator ground stud.

You do not need it connected unless you have a military STE/ICE tester.

Is that green wire attached to the frame or is it just looping back to the glow plug? Lighting makes it hard to tell.

It's looping.

I blew it up to look closer.

thanks for the help! its always unsettling to find loose wires in the engine compartment. I'm glad it's nothing major though.
