Last week I bid on and won a 1984 m1009 from govdeals. It belonged to a sheriff's office in North Carolina that had owned it since 1995. I drove the 175 mile trip there, and it fired right up with a jump start. I drove it all the way back with no issues. It will need all new rockers and floor pans, and new exhaust. My only concern is the amount of surface rust on the undercarriage. The sheriff's office did not use it much and it sat in a grassy field, which caused all the surface rust. I was told not to worry too much about it and wire brush everything then coat it with chassis saver.

It came with a clear title and I paid $1275 for it. I will post pics later, but does this sound like a decent price?

Sounds like a great price.

You might plan on replacing the parking brake cables since there is known rust on the undercarriage. Also take a look at the brake lines.

Looking forward to the pictures.

Will do that. I also planned up replacing all the brake lines with stainless steel lines. I think most of the rust underneath is just surface rust, I didn't find any rotted out metal.

Good deal. I grew up just north of there. Many of the local Sheriff's offices had these for just that reason... Hunting dope in the woods after it was spotted from the air.

Hit up under that beast with some jasco prep and then the rustoleom and you will be good to go. Salt load is pretty low in winters there compared to other area in wnc Up in the mountains they had the 1009's and used them in the winter for snow days. They are ate up with rust bad.
