Is your switch adjusted properly?

Here's a perfect situation where using the TMs is the way to go.

In the -20, follow the troubleshooting section for the backup lights.

(LIGHTING SYSTEM

Inoperative:

Back-up . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 2-71

It's all documented and easy to follow.

LIGHTING SYSTEM

31. BACK-UP LIGHT (ONE OR BOTH) WILL NOT TURN OFF

Step 1. Disconnect lead from back-up light switch.

If lights go out, replace switch. (See paragraph 4-19)

If lights do not go out, trace circuit. (See wiring diagram

32. BACK-UP LIGHTS (BOTH) INOPERATIVE

Step 1. Check 30 amp back-up light fuse. (See paragraph 4-12)

Replace fuse if burned out.

F-14, F-15, or F-17)

Step 2. Ensure that all lead connectors are secure at back-up light switch and at back-up

lights. Inspect connections for corrosion or damage.

Clean any corroded connections if possible. If connections are damaged,

replace.

If all connections are secure and there is no damage, check bulbs. (See

paragraph 4-28 or 4-29)

Do they come on ever(anywhere throughout the shifter movement)?

If so, that would indicate switch adjustment is needed.

Check your fuse box for voltage at the fuse.

Check the switch for voltage.

Check the switch for continuity when in reverse.

The switch is on top of the steering column, under the dash, close to the firewall.

Look at the schematic in the back of the -20 tm, for wire colors.

Switch adjustment is mentioned in the TM but only on initial install. No mention on how to achieve adjustment. Not a word about what you squeeze to adjust. Anyone have first hand knowledge? Checked the 20&34.

I've adjusted mine. I don't recall exactly how I squeezed it, but it wasn't too hard to figure out, as I recall.

Surprised it isn't in one of the 2 TMs.

edit, I just searched the TMs and there is no memntion of adjustment.

Thinking about the last time I adjusted mine(a few months back), I think I simply slid it and it makes a clicking noise as it moved. I don't think I needed to sqeeze anything.

I need to make the adjustment on the bambalance soon. Might go get a new switch to examine it.

Here's the adj procedure(step # 5) from the -20tm. It was in the Electrical section, not the Troubleshooting section.

I simply put my shifter in N, and slid the switch through it's range as my wife called out when it was on. I then centered it in that range. Has worked fine since.

I found this section in the -20. I need to figure out how to slide the switch in the housing. The tangs snap the housing into a fixed position.

Look at the left side of the picture I'm posting.

The switch has 2 halves. (put your hands together like your going to pray, then slide your hands keeping your fingers parallel). That is how the 2 halves slide to adjust it's switch position.

They do not slide like this during use, just during adjustment.

During use, the tang slides between the two halves.

Like I said in post 7, look at the -20tm(schematics) for wire colors. Dark blue & Light green.
