Issue. Transmission totally out.No gears at all.
Pull the transmission and had it fully rebuilt by a reliable transmission shop.
Transmission #2 shifts erratically.Up shifting at 22 and 30 until warm then it just went all over the place.Sometimes shifting 1 to second at 10 other times skipping second all together and shifting to third at 10.
We think vacuum pump.At idle it was pulling 12.5lb,but apparently not when warmed up.A few weeks of playing with adjustments and bam now first gear only.Governor snapped.

We put in a newly rebuilt 400.First trip it does not shift into 2nd until 30,and 3rd at 50(yes redline). No good. We check the vacuum again.12.5 at the ip 0 at the modulator.Run a new line.Still the same shift pattern.I take apart the vacuum adjustment on the ip pump.It is full of sand and dirt.Cleaned it and put it back together. Now we have good vacuum at idle at the ip and module.Still shifting way late 30 for first 46 for second with the module adjusted out to the max.

Did a little research at this point.Anyone know how you make a transmission shift later? You reduce the weights on the governor(you can buy manufactured weights or drill holes in your weights). So we pull the governor to check.

BINGO. Our governor has a hole the size of a dime in one of the weights.A quick call to the transmission shop and he finds the ORIGINAL transmission and pulls the governor and rebuilds it(replaces the gears ect).We put it in our new 400,dial back the modulator and take it for a test spin.First trip shifts to 2nd at 20 and 3rd at 34.Nearly perfect.Slightly adjust the modulator.Perfect.

In hind sight.Yes the governor on a gasser turbo 400 and a diesel are the exact same part number.HOWEVER the diesel has MUCH heavier weights. If you ever have a rebuild done make sure they use your original weights.

Hope this helps someone having shifting issues especially after a rebuild.
