M1028 Steering Colum

Hey guys i had my steering colum apart on my 1987 M1028 and now when i put it back together it is able to shift gears when the key is not in.. I dont know if these CUCV trucks are spos to be like this or if I put it back together wrong..aslo i tryed looking in the manual for an exploded view of the steering colum but couldnt find anything,does anybody know where i can find one...thanks

I think there is some good pics in the Haynes Repair Manual.
Thats how I did mine. If you are changing your ignition lock.

Thanks buddy do you know if it is spos to be able to shift gears without turning the key
I was changing my blinked switch and all the column guts went flying

The ignition should lock the column (steering and shifter).

In addition to the Haynes manual, try the LMC catalog for good illustrations if you cannot find what you're looking for in the Technical Manuals.
