Hey guys. I traveled down to Atlanta, GA today to pickup my new m1061a1 5 ton trailer. I was very excited to get this thing. I had a super big let down when I got there. Who ever is moving these trailers around has ruined the brake systems. All the 5 ton trailers had the hydraulic/air chambers broken off, all fresh damage. 5 in the auction. 3 on site to look at still all busted up.

The air release value cables were bent and broken and pulled off the air tanks also.

My chambers air hose had been cut and the chamber had been taken.

I spent all day looking at the tm and tring to find a new master cylinder(federal mogul part# fe14240) and air brake chamber (bendix part # 225358 ) it seems these parts are discontinued, I have not been able to cross reference this stuff and I have been told that the air over hydraulic is crap and not even allowed in the civilian world.

Is there an easy way to get this trailer up and running safely carrying heavy loads, without getting hammered on ebay for a new master cylinder. I still have not found a brake chamber. What should i do?

You could probably source a air pack/MC off a M105 trailer that someone is parting out.

On a side note, I think I know where you're located. You have a blazer that's lifted and on XL tires right?

Easy parts to source from those parting out trailers. Know anyone using an M105 to bob a deuce? Ask for the parts off their trailer. Post up a wanted ad and I bet you'll get it quick.

M1061a1 5 ton trailer - air hydraulic brakes broken by GL forklift. Repairs h...

Is the ford truck the designated tow vehical? Wheres the air brake air supposed to come from?
What is the weight rating of the hitch and pintle hook on the ford. It looks like it is a 2" receiver. You need a 2.5" receiver for this trailer.

There is not a ban on existing air over hydraulic trailer brakes.

The problem is that trailers built after about 1978 are required to have spring brakes. The master cylinder uses a 3 bolt mount and not the current 2 bolt mount. If you are going to use it commercially you should talk to the DOT inspectors to see if they want you to upgrade the trailer.

Mine were also broken when I picked up my trailer.

Buying from GL is like the gambling at the Casino. Roll the dice on the safest bets you know but realize you can always loose. Previewing especially if you are in town would have given you a clear picture when bidding what you were getting into. The prices ran pretty high on these trailers.

Kind of like how tom hanks in forest gump describes a box of chocolates

hey Swiss,

very true. I am in business and I sell to the public just as they. I would disclose damage in the listing, I would require my employees to do a 360 visual inspection and put that in the ad. I would not sleep well knowing that obvious damage was not disclosed. At the bare minimal I would at least make sure it made it into the photos. It is funny some of the trailers had underneath shots and the damaged one's did not. I do not live that far from this auction location. I just happened to be out of town during around this event. At least it rolled home easily enough. I could have been forced to trailer it. I saw a lot of equipment that would need to be trailer ed out.

Also it would not even be worth the hassle to me. My customers can get funny about a small ding or dent. The arguing is not worth the time. I did not even waste my time with complaining. This small Internet post will reach who it needs to.

Who knows, I might have a higher sense of duty, since i need repeat business and referrals. The auction is purely based on the almighty dollar because that is how they get the buyers commission. It is easy to try and say let's blame the buyer for not inspecting but in the end it hurts them. I will be much less likely to bid on anything they sell without an inspection. This will have the result of me bidding scrap prices for the items and not blindly bidding the price up. It is a shame really to see so many high dollar items being sold for little more than scrap prices sometimes.

In our economy and unstable times, customers with actual money are getting harder to come by. It seems to me, more and more people are using credit or can not even get credit. This has cut down on my potential customers. Referrals are so important now, too.

I just wanted to say thanks to you and the other guys here in GA that helped get our dmv laws changed. I jumped into buying my 932a2 before I realized that I could not easily get it titled and registered. That was not disclosed to me either before the purchase. The truck could still be a big paper weight.

Work took over me and I let my truck sit. I went to the dmv to speak to them about some other heavy equipment that I own and just happened to ask about the 932a2. They stated we have some new rules going into effect and I was like really? How can this be? When I logged back onto this site after my extended absence I see it was put into play by you guys.

Thanks to all you guys for that. I just received the sf97 forms from gl. once I get time
I hope to tag it up.

I watched an operator on base, load two of these trailers on a flatbed for deliver to its new owner. He was careful not to damage anything, not even the paint when he had to push the trailers straight on the semi flatbed. He did have a very large forklift to work with & seemed to care about the equipment he was charged with loading. This was not Atlanta, but it was in Georgia. It depends on the site & the people working it as to how your equipment is treated (or damaged).

Sorry to hear about your trailer brake damage, I thought about bidding on one of those from Atlanta, but decided not to due to parking space @ home!

Georgiairon, they also took out my shocks on another trailer I bought also!! The damage we saw on much of the equipment was caused at another site probably when loading to move to Atlanta because the Atlanta equipment forks can not go in as far to hit the shocks on the damage that was seen.

i agree with your post on ethics and good business practice. Maybe iron planet will learn a lesson and operate in a more professional manner providing us consumers a better experience. Ultimately some competition would be good for everyone.

Glad you got back on site, stick around the water is fine. Get your truck titled and see you at the Georgia rally in 4 week :)
