They had CCKW shop vans in WWII so shop vans are not something new. I also have seen M135 series vehicles as shop vans. I am sure they were in Vietnam.

Cyber, No pics, but they were in Viet Nam. I ditto Papa Bear.

"For every one hundred men you send us, Ten should not even be here. Eighty are nothing more than targets. Nine of them are real fighters; and we are lucky to have them, they the Battle make. Ah, but the one! One of them is a Warrior; and He will bring the others back.

Somewhere on my computer I do have pics!! I will try to find this week. Being that it was a shop truck for repairing equipment in the field. I know of quite a few ARTY units had their gun repair trucks as M109's. For lighter maint, they would drive the truck close to the gun pit instead of removing the gun from its emplacement. I remember them saying that unless it was for a barrel change, that the gun would usually stay at its set location.

Oh yea they were there.

My response is a little dated but for those interested here it is.

There were M109s in Vietnam - I was a turret mechanic with 1-HOW, 11th ACR.

Here are some movies I took while there.

Just click on the pictures.

OOPS -- didn't do my homework -- I was looking for the M109 Howitzer -- and came across this thread -- sorry.

Nevermind.

Being a Cavalry guy, just thinking tracks.

But our Mess Truck looked a lot like the trucks I have looked up -- Until we got our track mess vehicle.

There was footage of a M109 towing a M105 in the recent "Vietnam in HD" series on the history channel. Check that thread for which episode.

I also came across a picture of three of them in a motor pool in this Vietnam Logistics Report, just scroll down to [226]. You can't see much of the one to the far left but it looks like the box is covered by two M35A2 cargo bed canvases.
