Nothing.GL is a bunch of lazy idiots mostly(There are some out there that are pretty good.).A1 can actually be total scrap and HX can be perfect condition.Never read the discription.Check them in person or have someone look at them for you.

Yup, do some reading before you bid on a truck. If one of our members is near you, take them with you to look it over. If you don't look over a truck prior to bidding, you could get taken.

some bases are like that but most will let you on.But you gotta contact GL first,Scedule a preview,Show up,Contact the office there, they will send someone to you,and they have to escort you to the GL location.Normally.When done, they escort you back to the main gate.

You forgot the thermo-nuclear weapon. Not allowed to take that on base either.

The best advice I could give anyone is to go into the Deuce forum, start on page one and start reading threads, working your way back towards to most recent threads.

Reading all of those threads will give you an good base of knowledge about the Deuce.l You'll see the kind of problems that consistently come up and the various fixes.

The basic stuff I would look for are corrosion on the bed and cab, condition of the tires, which engine it has (turbo, 1C, 1D, etc.), is it an air shift transfer (which you definitely want), spring ride seat, condition of the troop seats, leaks underneath it, etc.

It's just like looking for a used car-just bigger, louder and more fun.

I would say if you are going to preview deuces, pick 3 you like, set a maximum amount you are willing to spend and be near a PC with high speed accces the day the auction ends.

Put in your max bid and if it gets bid past that, go to the next one. There is no reason to get into a bidding war, becuase in the next 24 months or so, the gummint is gonna' unload a ton of Deuces, so there will be others to bid on.

And like Freight Train said, the condition GL puts on an auction has little to do with reality.

Take a day off work and go inspect it.That is the best thing to do.What the other members say about condition is correct, don't go by the cond. code.Read up on them, you will need the knowledge anyhow.More important is ,how you going to get it if you do win? there is alot of time and expense that go into purchasing, transporting, title work and other misc. costs when you buy these trucks. That is why people that sell them don't sell them for $500 bucks.

trucks

I cant preview the trucks due to work schedule but if you want to come down to Portsmouth (norfolk/va beach area) on a weekend, you can look at my trucks and get familiar with them. While you are down this far, might as well go to John winslows (90 miles away in Carolina) and get even more familiar with them :)

RE: trucks

Where are you located in VA, Travis? I can't get up there on inspection day, but would be glad to help with any repair projects or advice you may need.
