Dot 3 is glyco based and will absorb water may damage paint. Dot 5 is silicone based and will not eat paint. It also will -not- absorb moisture. If a lot of water does get in a dot 5 system in can aggregate in spots and cause corrosion (ex-brake cyl bores). Dot 5 std and more expensive. I noticed it at NAPA a few days ago and it was 30$/qt. There are bargains at swap meets. 3 and 5 should not be mixed.

That sounds sarcastic....but there is so much that is different from the a3 and a2, I wanted to make sure I was on the same page.

03:33 in the A.M. when I posted, and just got back in, so let me re-phrase !

I wish someone had the ability to condense and put together a short cheat sheet version of the A2 and A3 basics, and let the more complex issues challenge use in the forums !

My personal opinion after much research and discussion would be to stay with the Dot 5, despite the cost and accessability !
