M37B1

Ok I've been around MV for 25 years or so now so I'm not a newbie...but I have a question that makes me go huh?

Why did the military name the M37B1...B1 and not A1? Most MVs when they have a change in them go to the A1, then A2 and so on. M35, M35A1, M35A2, M35A3....for example. What was the reason behind the B1?

Beta 1? I have no clue. Quite frankly B1 sounds better than A1... but then I can be a fool.
