m52a2 6x6 inop

My brother has a 1965 jeep m52a2,and his front axle won't lock in in forward gears ,but seems to work good in reverese?any one have some knowledge they could share?of course it is a sprage t case truck,thanks alot

Does it make the air sounds in both 1st and reverse? Might need to clean and lube the air shuttle valve and air cylinder. New seals on the piston possibly also(they can hold on one side and leak on the other.

jack up the front end to relase the tension on the transfer case.
