It has a sprag (overrunning clutch) with directional contol handled by air. When the rears slip, that overrunning clutch engages the front drive.

The M35 can have a sprag OR an air shift ..upgraded version...Your truck only came in a sprag, read the TM 's,there is alot of info on running with a sprag,The 5 tonners sprags are a lot more robust than the M35s, Its a good unit in your truck, but you sure can ruin your it and or, tires, and alot of other parts if u dont realize its there, its a tactical truck, meant to have service at close intervals, and being old it needs more, ...Randy
