M809 starters (PRESTOLITE MODEL MFY6101AUT vs A-A-59294-1)

Today a M809 series truck came to my unit for general overhaul. Among many things it needed a complete starter change.

The technician removed the old one from the truck (a prestolite MFY6101AUT starter) and received an A-A-59294-1 starter for replacement.

The A-A-59294-1 is the part number of the official TM but I wonder how the 6101AUT was on the truck from the beggining. Are they interchangable?

Yes, they are interchangeable. There are several different starters that fit this application, as well as many of the other larger M series trucks.
