I had no idea that the sprag ONLY functions when the air system is charged. I looked into a bit and JWALLER is definitely correct...no air and the sprag stays in a neutral position (neither forward nor reverse). Still, that was a surprise. You learn something new each day!
ya thats why the installation of an airshift switch like the deuce's have is pretty useful on the 5T trucks (there is a very hard to find MWO for it). you can have it only when you want it. saves possible damage on the sprag too when you forget to put it in R when rolling backwards.

Wouldn't having the air hooked up, only matter if you were "flat" towing it. Otherwise, wouldn't the front tires just spin in the air?
