M929 parking brakes

Hi gang , been off the gride for a while. Buddy of mine called for assistance with a 929 . I need a rundown on the parking brake system, how it works , the issue is there is a roller/air valve type deal at the brake lever, how does this work with the brake system ? Both of us are 800 series techs and not familular with the 900's, thanks for any help on this.

That lever performers the same action as a parking brake dash valve on a commercial truck.
