If your HMMWV feels sluggish and is reluctant to downshift try these easy adjustments.

Note: This is assuming all parts working properly when adjusted and not a trouble shooting guide.

Starting with the throttle cable it is located under hood in top center of engine bay.20210718_144120.jpg20210718_144155.jpg
This picture taken standing on passenger tire. Camouflaged arrow point is throttle cable. For faster downshifts with less throttle expose threads on top of bracket. It is held in place with 2 nuts tightened together. If idle speed rises you have adjusted too far. I thought I had another picture if kickdown switch. Guess not. It is attached at opposite side and has a white roller on switch. You should hear it click on and off with someone pushing throttle to floor.

Next the modulator. It is located behind doghouse.

Tools needed 7/16 socket if you have radio tray, 1" wrench, Channel locks

Loosen nut, adjust exposing threads to rear of truck. This pic taken from passenger side.

Closeup, I've adjusted before but gettin just a little bit more. You can tell from cleaner threads previous adjustment distance.

All that I could go. Thats it!

The hmmwv feels like a different vehicle now. Holds gear longer and downshifts faster.
