Its all wheel drive 30 front 70 percent rear. Both rears are linked via driveshaft same as m939 trucks. Mode on the trans control will give you 50 50 and lock the center diff forcing both driveshafts to turn at the same speed.

Besides being a REAL SHAME to destroy a beautiful 1088 I am sure it can be done, BUT STILL A COMPLETE SHAME!!!!!!!

Looking at the M1088, if I unbolt the 5th wheel stuff and some of the other stuff a box should bolt right on. And their is the 290 HP !!

And the main reason is I mite be able to bid and win this one ?? LOL Mainly because it is harder to convert it !

Would have been better to get a M1078 but they are being bid up to much. Maybe the 6 wheel drive will put off some ?

Suprman,do you think the idea of pulling the 5th wheel stuff and using the chassis is doable ? I know it adds work but ? Its a little bigger than what I had in mind but, what the he!! !

All the 6X6's are 290hp.

The back part of the frame on the M1088 is quite a bit different that the frame of the other 6X6 trucks. Not saying it can't be done but it would be alot more effort than just removal of the 5th wheel.

No sh!t . LOL

With having to build the box I don't think the odd chassis is going to be that much of big deal .
Also everything is going to be a one off anyways.
Here is a shot of the semi/RV build. Needed to stretch the chassis for the 20' box.

I'm just trying another way around the problem of a good price on the parts I need to build this truck.

So on wednesday I will find out what they go for.

Does anyone know the differences amongst the 6X6's intermediate axles? Seems like there are several different part numbers depending on the truck configuration.

They all look the same. Rockwell axletech and meritor are all the same company but at one time they all had separate part numbers for the same nsn axle. The middle axle has an geared assembly that brings the input and output up and towards the drivers side.

If I'm seeing this right..... a 4x4 could be converted to a 6x6. Though if one had the funds it looks like it would be easier to just get a 6x6 with higher output engine in the first place. NOTE....... if one had the funds.

If you throw enough money at anything it can usually be done. I personally prefer the less expensive route though. I do think a camper body could be installed on any of the cargo or tractor lmtv trucks relatively easily though. As long as you are not playing musical axles in the process that is.

I was perusing the TM and noticed that there are 3 different intermediate axles, diff part numbers and diff nsn's.. I was just wondering what makes them different...

I have moved on. This could be done but the 6 wheels and tires are looking better.

So, a M1078 weight's 16,699 lbs. And a M1088 is 18,640. Do you think the 5th wheel stuff weights 1000 lbs. ?
