Wow I have been neglecting Mr Crusty's thread. He has his doors back on and the front end sheet metal was put back on today during the drying time between coats of paint on Mr Rusty.001.jpg002.jpg003.jpgThe old F150 that's another story.

DSCF6467.jpgMr Crusty had some nice dry drums and the brakes are in need of replacing. The E brake cables are shot and I cut with the bolt cutter. I am going to rebuild the entire rear brake system. i removed the entire backing plate and rebuild them on my work bench and then just put the 4 bolts back in and bolt the entire brake system back on the axle. it makes cleaning and installing easier on the work bench. I do the same thing to M1009's. This is the only picture out of 6 that I could load. IDK.

He needs to be completed by the end of the month. I have a lot of projects going right now. I am making headway on all of them. I will post more pictures as the production continues. DSCF6863.jpgDSCF6862.jpgDSCF6864.jpgWhile I was looking for parts today I came across a stash of nomenclatures. This is just a drop in the bucket. I must have cut up several dozen CUCV's for scrap and parted several out over the past 20 years. I wish I had some of them again.

This weekend was not a total loss. Mr Crusty is due to launch out of the garage next week. Oh Joy. I can not wait. I have several projects to work on inside and several outside in the dirt. I have the Easter find M1008 truck to redo for the owner. The bed is back on Mr Crusty and the bed is in fiish primer and sanded. The body is not dent free but better a few dents then rust. I am sure it was nicer when I redid it in 2005 but my Son put the works to it since then.25397_100972853272123_4926023_n.jpg247143_207323499303724_2196001_n.jpg240481_207322785970462_6642517_o.jpg30845_114223265280415_3264226_n.jpg30845_114223261947082_4894082_n.jpg30845_114223251947083_7852836_n.jpg30845_114223225280419_3238402_n.jpg30845_114223218613753_5805726_n.jpg30845_114223215280420_3930598_n.jpg247871_207323465970394_3285513_n.jpgThis type of driving tends to mar the sheet metal a bit. Kids. If I only knew.

Mr Crusty has a hood and all the decals removed from the back window. It looks like Saturday is paint day. Must keep plugging away at it. I need the garage.

mr crusty.jpgMr Crusty is almost ready for paint. My Son did the 1991 GM quad headlamp radiator support and LED headlamp swap. He also put the mirrors on from the 1991 GM But I think it looks good. We are cutting and rewelding the stock brushguard to fit the design of the replacement front end. Saturday it gets a new paint job. All new design and pattern. Have a great day.

I'm watching and like you, I'm not knocking out the dings/dangs from my (My Son's) M1009 aka Nebulous. It looks like a spotted ape right now as we are hitting the spots. Following your advice and taking our time as it looks like July/August will be our paint time.

Today was Mr Crusty's time in the paint shop. the barn bay. I work out of an old 120 year old bank barn. No fancy shop. It has no heat or running water. It has a 110 volt extension cord for electric from my house. I never needed anymore then that. Strange. All my life I had to do things the hard way. Never bothered me either.DSCF6981.jpgDSCF6982.jpgDSCF6983.jpgDSCF6984.jpgDSCF6985.jpgDSCF6986.jpg0900 and Mr Crusty is in sealer.

DSCF7050 - Copy.jpgDSCF7056.jpgDSCF7051.jpgDSCF7052.jpgDSCF7053.jpgDSCF7054.jpgDSCF7055.jpgAfter lunch we did some more work and it was time to install the wheels and get Mr Crusty out in the sun to dry and clean up the garage for the next vehicle. I kinda like the results. It is very differnt and neatly done. The wheels and tires need cleaned up and then some Line X to the bed , bumpers, cab interior. Along with a new bench seat.

DSCF7095.jpgDSCF7090.jpgDSCF7091.jpgDSCF7092.jpgDSCF7093.jpgDSCF7094.jpgToday we worked on my Sons Mr Crusty. It is coming along nicely. I really like the 1991 K 5 Blazer grille and headlamp set up. He used a kit for a spray in cab floor liner. He is sending the truck to get the bed LineXed. We still have some modifications and welding to redesign the brush-guard. That is one the schedule. I must get as much work as possible done this week while I am off work. Thanks for looking. I know you like it.

DSCF7139.jpgDSCF7138.jpgDSCF7137.jpgDSCF7136.jpgAs you can see. Mr Rusty had one of them I am always in doubt hitches. I finally talked my Son into doing away with that accident looking for a place to happen lower bumper hitch. I used my torching skills and burnt the class 3 receiver from the rear bumper. We wanted to salvage the rear bumper and rebuild it after some grinding, welding and hammering it is on its way to being rebuilt and nice again. I have seen 2 of theese type oh hitches fail. One was on my truck when I was on my way up to Gilbert. They safety chain snagged on a sharp turn and just twisted the hitch straight down and about tore the center section out. The other one was on a friends truck and he was hauling his car trailer and hit a few bumps and noticed the trailer lights not working. When he went back his center section was also torn and bent. So it was no weld failure it was a failure as to where it is mounted and the strength is gone down that far from the brackets and the pintle hook mounts. Never again. I will always buy the frame mounted receiver. The receiver I burnt off Mr Crusty I am going to salvage for a Honda tractor I am building to haul firewood. Take care and have a great safe day. Have you checked your hitch lately? Be safe and double check it for damage and rusty parts.
