Thank you Guyfang and Gimpyrobb, I got it fixed. When I finally got the Pages Guyfang referred me to and studied the4m a while I realized that the solenoid has 2 coils one pull in and one hold. I was not ohming the pull in coil, just the hold. found out the pull in coil was bad. Put the new solenoid on and tried it. The pull in coil worked but did not make the starter turn. I looked down on the work bench and saw what looked like a small thick flat washer without a hole in the middle and realized it was supposed to go inside the hole of the solenoid plunger to give it a little more movement to the rod. put that in and put it back together and all works fine. Just curious I took the old solonoid apart and found the wire broke where it connects to the bottom post. I will try to solder that back tomorrow and hopefully have a usable spare. Since spare parts are hard to come by here in Africa it's worth the trouble. Thanks again guys.
