MEP 003 fuel gauge float

I'm going to send my MEP 003 fuel tank out to get cleaned and I will be removing the fuel gauge float. Do I need to store the float in diesel or is ok to store it out in the open? Will the cork be damaged if it not submurged in fuel?

It will be fine. I've got several sitting on the shelf after being removed and everything is fine.

Put it in a zip-lock bag if you think leaving it out may damage it. If anything, doing that would keep it clean.
